Harrison Steel welcomes applications for Furnace Helpers.
Responsible for providing assistance in production of molten metal by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists in repairing the furnace refractory.
Assists in weighing all additions to furnace, making sure weights and types of additions are correct.
Loads block tubs for addition to the furnace.
Runs oxygen lance.
Takes spectrometer tests.
Pours slag test specimens.
Reads slag tests.
Assists in blocking heats.
Assists in adding electrodes.
Maintains and rebuilds spout and ensures it is clean, smooth and dry.
Opens tap hole and sweeps out prior to tapping heat.
Takes ladle tests.
Takes care of dust collection units.
Assists in keeping area around furnace in a clean and orderly fashion.
Work EnvironmentSignificant time is spent collecting data inside our industrial steel foundry, where standardization is sometimes limited.
Our buildings are not climate controlled.
Temperatures reach 100 degrees inside the facility on many summer days and drop well below 20 degrees in the winter.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
Work in high, precarious places; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud or very loud.
The successful candidate will spend 40 percent of time on the production floor, 40 percent in individual projects and 20 percent in group projects working with other departments and employees.
